How to Transfer Music to a Coby MP3 Player

By Stephen A. Powell

Having a portable digital music player means you can have hundreds of your favorite songs on a compact, lightweight device while traveling or enduring periods of relative boredom. Because Coby MP3 players do not require synchronization with a music management utility, you can quickly transfer music from your Windows-based computer's personal collection onto any of the manufacturer's models. Provided your computer has a functioning USB port, you can freely add and remove music whenever you see fit.

Things You'll Need

  • Coby USB cable

Step 1

Connect the Coby MP3 player to your computer through its USB adapter.

Step 2

Select "Open folder to view files" from the new device dialog box that pops up. If the new device dialog does not appear upon the hardware's connection, click "Start," click "My Computer" and right-click the Coby MP3 player's device icon in Windows Explorer .

Step 3

Click "Start," click "My Music" and open the folder containing the music you wish to transfer onto the Coby MP3 player.

Step 4

Drag and drop the music files or folders into the Coby MP3 player's open directory. Alternatively, you can highlight the music files or folders and click the "Copy the selected" link from the Files and Folders Tasks menu in the left column. Select the "Removable Disk" drive from the list of destinations.

Tips & Warnings

  • Safely remove the Coby MP3 player from your computer. Right-click the device icon or connected hardware icon in the taskbar and select "Safely Remove Hardware."
