How to Transfer Outlook Express to a New Computer

When you purchase a new computer after using Microsoft Outlook Express on your old computer, usually you would like to continue using Outlook Express on your new computer. It is an easy process to copy your Outlook Express files from your old computer to your new computer so you have all of your contacts, emails and calendar items available on your new computer from the beginning.

Things You'll Need

  • Microsoft Outlook Express
  • Flash drive

Step 1

Insert the flash drive into a USB port on your old computer.

Step 2

Open Microsoft Outlook Express on your old computer and click “File” and then “Import and Export.” Select “Export to a File” and then click “Next.”

Step 3

Select “Personal Folder File” from the list of file types you can create. Click “Next.”

Step 4

Select “Personal Folders” and place a check mark in the box to the left of “Include Subfolders.” Click “Next.”

Step 5

Choose the location to which you wish to export the file. For easy access, select the desktop. Choose how you wish to export any duplicate items and click “Finish.” Wait while the files copy and the shortcut is created on the desktop.

Step 6

Right-click on the file and select “Send To.” Choose the flash drive and wait while the backup file copies to your flash drive. Remove the flash drive from your old computer.

Step 7

Insert the flash drive into a USB port on your new computer.

Step 8

Open Microsoft Outlook Express on your new computer, and click “File” and then “Import and Export.” Select “Import from another Program or File” and then click “Next.”

Step 9

Select “Personal Folder File” from the list of files you can import. Click “Next.”

Step 10

Browse to the location of the file by finding the flash drive on your new computer. Choose how you wish to import any duplicate items and click “Next.”

Step 11

Enter your Outlook Express password and click “OK.” Wait while the backup file imports into your Outlook Express program.

Step 12

Verify that all of the folders and subfolders are now present and filled with your Outlook Express data from your old computer.

Step 13

Remove the flash drive from your new computer.
