How to Transfer Saved E-mail From One Account to Another
Many popular e-mail programs will allow you to transfer saved e-mail messages from one account to another. This is useful if you have decided to use a different e-mail program, or if you want to organize your e-mail messages more effectively.
Things You'll Need
- Computer Desks
- E-mail Accounts
- E-mail Software
Open the recipient software application - the one that is to receive the saved messages.
Search for a function that will allow you to bring in messages from another program or account. This could be called Import Messages, Bring In Messages, or something similar.
When you have found the correct function, check for a way to bring in messages. Applications such as Outlook Express will locate other software programs installed on your computer and will allow you to import the messages from these programs.
Follow the software's instructions for importing the saved e-mail messages.
Tips & Warnings
- If your software program allows it, you may also be able to use a Message Export function. Open the software that contains the messages you want to transfer. Locate a function called Transfer, Send Messages or Export Messages. Select the software application that you want to send the messages to, then follow the instructions provided.
- If your e-mail program doesn't have any export or import features, you can save your messages as text files or resend them to yourself. But these options are time-consuming.
- If you have a great many messages, it's a good idea to delete the unneeded ones and organize the others prior to importing or exporting them.
