How to Troubleshoot a DirecTV Receiver
DirecTV provides subscribers in the United States and Latin America with over 285 channels of programming, all delivered through the satellite receivers. Choose from a DVR or non-DVR receiver. Occasionally, you may experience issues with the receiver. Troubleshoot some of the most common issues before resorting to calling technical support.
Reset your receiver if the audio or video is frozen. Open the access card panel located on the front of the receiver and press the red "Reset" button. Wait for the program guide information to be acquired.
Unplug your receiver for 15 seconds if the screen is blank. Plug in the receiver and wait for the program guide information to be acquired. Attempt to view a channel.
Check your receiver's power adapter if it will not turn on with the remote or from the front panel. If the power adapter is plugged in securely and the receiver will not turn on, switch the adapter to another outlet.
Remove any items near the receiver if it unexpectedly shuts off. Excessive heat can cause the receiver to turn off. Make sure there is plenty of room around the receiver.
Check your cable connections if your pictures is snowy or blocky. Each connection should be secure.

- Reauthorize your receiver on a computer if you are still experiencing issues with the device. Enter "directv.com/reauthorize" in your web browser's address bar. Log into your online account and follow the instructions on the screen.
