How to Turn Off a Security Lock on a Computer

By TS Jordan

Locking computer accounts for security purposes is a prudent step to take if you have multiple individuals using the same PC. However, if you are not concerned about the integrity of the file structure on your computer, you can remove locked security privileges from an account. Accomplish this by disabling system passwords through the tools in your operating system.

Step 1

Click "Start" and type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotation marks) in the "Search" box.

Step 2

Press "Enter" to open the Userpasswords utility.

Step 3

Uncheck the box stating "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer."

Step 4

Press "Apply" and restart the computer.
