How to Uninstall a Password Protected Program on Windows XP

By John Stevens

Many Windows programs come with the option of setting up a password to activate the program. This option can be an effective way to determine which user or users have access to the program. However, exercising such an option carries with it the risk of forgetting the password. If the password is not provided, the program cannot be accessed, rendering the program useless. Follow the steps below to uninstall a password protected program from a Windows XP computer system.

Step 1

Double-click the "My Computer" icon located on the desktop. Alternatively, "My Computer" can also be accessed through the "Start" menu at the lower left-hand corner of the computer screen.

Step 2

Click on "Control Panel" located on the menu which appears on the left side of the "My Computer" screen.

Step 3

Double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" icon located on the "Control Panel" window.

Step 4

Wait for the pop-up window to populate with the installed programs.

Step 5

Peruse the list in the pop-up window to locate the password protected program to be uninstalled.

Step 6

Left-click one time on the program to be uninstalled to highlight the program. Highlighting the program will cause a "Change/Remove" button to appear.

Step 7

Click on the "Change/Remove" button.

Step 8

Confirm the removal by clicking "Yes" when prompted.
