How to Uninstall a Password Protected Program on Windows XP

Many Windows programs come with the option of setting up a password to activate the program. This option can be an effective way to avoid which user or users have access to the program. However, exercising such an option carries with it the risk of forgetting what the password is. If the password is not provided, the program cannot be accessed, rendering the program useless. Follow the steps below to uninstall a password protected program from a Windows XP computer system.

Step

Double-click the “My Computer” icon located on the desktop. Alternatively, “My Computer” can also be accessed through the start menu at the lower left-hand corner of the computer screen.

Click on “Control Panel” located on the menu which appears on the left side of the “My Computer” screen.

Double-click the “Add or Remove Programs” icon located on the control panel window.

Step

Wait for the pop-up window to populate with the installed programs.

Step

Peruse the list in the pop-up window to locate the password protected program to be uninstalled.

Step

Left-click one time on the program to be uninstalled to highlight the program. Highlighting the program will cause a “change/remove” button to appear.

Step

Click on the “change/remove” button.

Step

Confirm the removal by clicking “yes” when prompted.
