How to Uninstall HP Printers

By Stephen Lilley

Simply unplugging an HP printer from your computer does not equal a complete removal of the device. Software for the device will still be installed on your computer; and, as the printer is no longer present, the software will just sit unused on your hard drive taking up space. To uninstall an HP printer, you must properly remove it from your computer altogether via the Control Panel.

Step 1

Click "Start."

Step 2

Click "Control Panel."

Step 3

Select "Devices and Printers."

Step 4

Right-click on the icon for your HP printer. Click "Run as Administrator." Left-click once on your HP printer's icon.

Step 5

Click the "Remove" button in the "Devices and Printers" toolbar. This will properly remove the HP printer from your computer. You can now unplug the HP printer from your computer and do whatever you'd like with the actual hardware.
