By Mike Benson

You can add enhancements and innovative features and improve performance by upgrading your copy of the Windows Media Player. Microsoft continually maintains this built-in operating system component through frequent small updates and major periodic upgrades. You can quickly check for and download any available updates from within the player's Help menu.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet connection

Step 1

Log on to your computer as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group and make sure you have an Internet connection.

Step 2

Click "Start." Type "Wmplayer" in the "Search" field, and press "Enter" to open Media Player.

Step 3

Press the "F10" key to display a command bar at the top of the window if it is not already displayed.

Step 4

Click "Help," and click the "Check for updates...." option. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the upgrade.
