How to Use DVDs to Burn Xbox 360 Games for Free
The optical discs used for Xbox 360 games may look the same as standard computer or movie DVDs, but there are some significant differences. Microsoft produces Xbox 360 discs with Dual Layer technology that makes the media unrecognizable in many home DVD players or computer optical drives. Even if you have a computer DVD burner drive that can recognize discs created with the special Xbox 360 format, you must alter game files on the disc before you can burn them. Fortunately, free software makes it relatively easy to do.
Things You'll Need
- Blank DVD +R Dual Layered disc
- PC with CD/DVD burner drive capable of burning Dual Layered discs
- Original Xbox 360 game disc

Download and save DVD Decrypter on your PC (see "Resources"). Double-click the downloaded setup file and install DVD Decrypter. Reboot the computer if prompted by the installation utility.
Download the ESR Patcher Utility (see "Resources"). The ESR Patcher Utility is an executable file, so you do not need to install it on your computer.

Highlight the image file, and then click the "Patch" button. Wait while the ESR Patcher Utility adds needed encryption files to the image file. Close the utility when prompted.
Launch DVD Decrypter or another CD/DVD burning application. Click and enable "Image" or "ISO" mode in the burning application. Insert the blank DVD +R Dual Layered disc into the burner drive of your computer.
Click the "Add Image" or "Browse" button in the burning application. Locate the patched ISO files and select it in the file browser window. Click the "Add" or "Open" button.
Click the "Burn" or "Write" button in the burning program to copy the image file to the blank disc. Remove the disc when the burning application finishes burning the image and ejects the disc. The burned disc is playable in the Xbox 360 console.
