How to Use Microsoft Outlook With Yahoo Email

You may have been using your Yahoo email account for years, or simply months, and it is the email address all of your contacts know. You have been thinking about Microsoft Outlook, though, and would like to be able to use all of its features. Fortunately, you do not have to give up your Yahoo email account to benefit from Outlook's calendar, tools and other advantages. Simply follow these steps to use your Yahoo account within Outlook.

Things You'll Need

  • Microsoft Outlook (versions 2000 to 2007)

Step 1

Open Microsoft. Go to the "Tools" menu and click "Email Accounts." The Email Accounts Wizard will open. Select the "Add a New Email Account" button and then click "Next." Select "POP3" under "Server Type." Click "Next."

Step 2

Type your name as you want it to appear to people who receive emails from you in the "Your Name" field. Enter your Yahoo user name followed by "" in the "Email Address Box." For example, if your user name is "Snuggyschmoopiekins," enter ""

Step 3

Type "" into the "Incoming Mail Server" field, and type "" into the "Outgoing Mail Server" box.

Step 4

Enter your user name in the "User Name" field under "Logon Information" (when you enter your email address, this field might be automatically populated). Enter your Yahoo password in the "Password" field. If you want Outlook to remember your password so you don't have to enter it each time you log in, select the "Remember Password" check box. Click the "Test Account Settings" button to make sure the information is entered correctly.

Step 5

Click the "More Settings" button. Under "Mail Account" enter "Yahoo." Go to the "Outgoing Server" tab and select the checkbox for "My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication." Click the "Use Same Settings as my Incoming Mail Server" button and click "OK." Click "Next" and then "Finish."
