How to Watch MP4 Videos

By Andrew Smith

Videos in MP4 format can be downloaded from programs such as Limewire. There are also software programs that allow you to download videos from websites such as You Tube and then convert those videos to MP4 format. You might notice, however, that you have problems opening these videos in media players such as Windows Media Player. Fortunately, there is a free software program that will open and play these files.

Step 1

Start off by logging onto the VLC homepage (see Resources below).

Step 2

Click the appropriate download link found underneath the "Download VLC" heading in order to download the VLC Media Player setup to your computer. The link that you choose will be dependent on which operating system is on your computer.

Step 3

Double click the VLC Media Player setup in order to open the installation program. Follow the on-screen instructions in order to install VLC Media Player onto your computer.

Step 4

Open VLC Media Player.

Step 5

Click "File." Choose "Quick Open File."

Step 6

Find the MP4 video on your computer that you wish to watch and then double click on the file. The video will then open in VLC Media Player and you will able to watch that video.
