Techpin.com says that AA batteries always last longer than AAA batteries do. But some types of AA batteries last longer than others. Several brands are available in disposable alkaline, lithium, nickel oxyhydroxide and rechargeable varieties that last longer than some of the best-known name brands. One brand ended up in the Guinness Book of World Records for how long its alkaline batteries lasted.
Lithium batteries are already made to last longer than disposable alkaline batteries. Because of that, you’ll have to pay a little more for them. Galltech.com recommends Energizer’s e2 Lithium batteries that cost about $8 for a 4-pack and last for 15 years compared to the seven years for alkaline. Energizer also sells these as an eight-pack for $15. Galltech.com also recommends them for digital cameras, since traveling may prove a challenge to recharging when you need to. You can buy Energizer’s lithium batteries at Amazon.com or at any electronics store.
Nickel Oxyhydroxide Battery
These batteries may not be as well known as lithium batteries, but they provide as much power as alkaline brands. Many are designed for digital cameras, and the longer life of the batteries will help you considerably when on extensive trips. According to Galltech.com, Panasonic’s Oxyride brand is the best-performing nickel oxyhydroxide battery available. Most electronics stores will carry these for a reasonable price of under $3 for a two-pack.
Prepare to pay considerably more for a rechargeable battery, mainly because a charger is sold with the batteries. One of the longest-lasting is from a surprising name. Sanyo may not be the first name you think of, but their Eneloop rechargeable battery package is highly popular, according to Galltech.com. You can buy Sanyo’s Eneloop rechargeable batteries with the charger for around $18. The more familiar name Duracell also sells a long-lasting rechargeable battery with charger. Look for their 2650 mAh batteries in any electronics store or Walgreens for around $15.
Longest Lasting Alkaline AA Battery Ever
TechPin.com says that the longest-lasting AA alkaline battery ever made to date is from Panasonic's Evolta brand. According to TechPin, Evoltas have increased power by 30 percent compared to previous versions. The Guinness Book of World Records also cites these batteries for lasting longer than any other on the market. Increased power comes from more space within the internal part of the battery, where a chemical reaction of new materials takes place. These new materials are manganese dioxide and oxyhydroxide titanium for the cathode side, combining with zinc on the anode side.
