Braven 805by Braven
PROS
- If you like both your volume and colors loud, this may be the portable wireless speaker for you.
- Jam out for 18 continuous hours with the 805's beefy battery, or use the speaker to charge other devices such as your phone.
- The 805 shares many of the features and sound characteristics of Braven's BRV-HD, but it costs $100 less.
CONS
- This speaker is not small enough to slip into your pocket, and it doesn't have a handle or grip.
- The Braven 805 only charges from a power outlet. When it does, the battery meter doesn't indicate how charged it is until it's fully charged.
- Some users may find the volume up and down buttons that also control skipping tracks forward and back a bit tricky to operate.

I was surprised at how much bass this little speaker had - and it can be played very loudly, too - again, surprisingly so. But it comes at a price. The midrange is relatively weak and so is the treble.

The 805 did a pretty good job reproducing high-quality mastered/remastered albums; everything from Stan Getz jazz to Daft Punk, crisp and clear even on the high end.

Just like its little brother, the 805 has been impeccably built: the chassis is made of a single piece of thermoplastic with invisible joints. The sides have been expertly slotted into the rim, and there are no visible screws.

In some cases [with the SRS WOW HD feature activated] I felt there was an improvement in the audio quality but not always. In fact in some instances I preferred the original version without any enhancement.

Overall this speaker has the loudness down pat, the ability to charge your smartphone or tablet is great but nigh on useless, and the fact that you have to charge it with a wall-charger only quite frankly, sucks.
