Recommended, but seriously flawed. There are probably better alternatives.

PROS

  • The plastic design looks good for the price.
  • The full-size keyboard is comfortable.
  • The screen is bright and offers rich colors.

CONS

  • The plastic body flexes and creaks when you touch it in certain places.
  • Performance isn't great, especially on complex Web pages.
  • Battery life is only fair, with many reviewers reporting four hours of real use between charges.
HP's Chromebook 11 runs Google's Chrome OS and was developed in partnership with Google. A colorful, friendly plastic outer shell hides some dated internals, however. The ARM CPU used here was also used in the Samsung Chromebook released a year before. A basic 11-inch IPS display with 1366 x 768 screen resolution sits above a full-size keyboard. Like all other Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, and Chromebases, this is a hardware shell for Google's Chrome OS and its Web browser-only vision for the future of computing.

The trackpad is occasionally a little jittery, and we've seen trackpads with its finish before now get shiny, worn patches through heavy use that makes them less responsive. We don't know if this would be the case here, but it's a concern.

I'll never quite get used to not having a dedicated caps lock button, but that useless whining aside, this keyboard is quite decent.
