PROS

  • The Officejet Pro 8620 prints fast and supports one-touch NFC.
  • The printer has a built-in document feeder and supports duplexing.
  • The scanner covers full legal size.

CONS

  • NFC currently only works with one mobile device, and the software isn't consumer friendly.
  • There is no manual feed or multipurpose tray.
  • The ink cartridge has an awkward fit and produces less than stellar quality printing.
The HP Officejet Pro 8620 is an economical multifunction printer for home or office. While print quality isn’t the greatest, the printer is fast and uses ink efficiently. The automatic document feeder lets you copy faster, and the automatic duplexing can save paper. The legal-sized flatbed scanner will please contract and law firms. The Officejet Pro 8620 supports Near Field Communications, but it only works with one HP mobile device. The lack of manual feed or a multipurpose tray limits envelope or special paper printing. The large desktop footprint and awkward cartridge fit may turn off home users.

It’s a shame if HP is sacrificing its print quality for extra speed, as although the OfficeJet Pro 8620 is very quick for an inkjet machine in this class, there are several places in which mono and colour print doesn’t come up to the standard of HP’s own, cheaper, home all-in-ones.

It’s an excellent high-volume printer—period—even if its bigger 8630 brother will be a better buy for many shoppers.

This is an especially user-friendly printer, which makes it enjoyable to use, but the print quality isn't up to par.
