PROS

  • The GizmoGadget is easy to use and features a design that will appeal to its target market of 6- to 12-year-olds.
  • It includes location-tracking features and allows kids to make calls and send texts directly from the watch.
  • It's fun for kids to use but offers a good amount of parental controls.

CONS

  • It's only available to Verizon Wireless customers.
  • It does not allow kids to send free-form text messages; instead they must choose from a customizable list of options.
  • The GizmoGadget isn't cheap, and using its service costs $5 per month.
Kids and smartwatches may not be the most secure--or the most affordable--mix. LG's GizmoGadget is a children's smartwatch that offers some useful security tools for parents, without the distractions and potential hazards a true smartwatch may bring. The GizmoGadget includes an activity tracker, a timer and stopwatch, text messaging, and a couple of light-hearted fun tools. Parents will like its location features, which allow them to track down the watch and its wearer, as well as its ability to let your child make speakerphone-like voice calls and send text messages to a list of contacts.
