Recommended, but seriously flawed. There are probably better alternatives.

PROS

  • The Ultimaker 2 Go produces 3D prints with high resolution and overall good quality.
  • The printer is lightweight and compact.
  • The setup is easy, and the menu navigation works well.

CONS

  • Some reviewers encountered extrusion problems.
  • The printer's relatively small print build area and lack of a heated print bed can cause problems with some 3D objects.
  • Printing from the USB port isn't officially supported, and help resources are difficult to find.
The Ultimaker 2 Go 3D printer makes high-resolution models on a 120 mm x 120 mm build area with unheated print bed, which limits individual part size. The 2 Go comes with a spool of SLA filament, but it also supports ABS filament. The printer has an SD card slot to load 3D objects for printing, and it comes with a 4GB SD card with some samples to try. The USB port on the printer is used to update the firmware, not to print.

As the print bed doesn't heat you're ready to remove the print seconds after the printing process has completed. As always you can have a fight on your hands if there's a large surface area for the base of your model.

The truth is that the Ultimaker 2 Go is not exactly idiot-proof. Me being one, I found that out rather fast. The filament loading mechanism is tricky. Once you get the hang of it – that is once you learn to let the machine forward the filament all the way to the extruder – it works fine.
