The Best Travel Humidifiers You’ll Need This Winter Season

Don't let cold and flu season take you down.

By Jill Layton

There are so many reasons to look forward to traveling during the winter season. First and foremost, it's vacation; we all need a long break from regular life, and what better way to do that than to travel?

But whether you're going home for the holidays, to a ski resort with friends or to a tropical island with your partner (#jealous), you gotta stay healthy.

Why You Need a Humidifer

Winter air is dry air, so if you do happen to be traveling somewhere cold (you know, like pretty much anywhere in the US this time of year), you may want to consider bringing along a travel humidifier.

Why? Well, consider this: A study done by John Noti, a senior service fellow at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Morgantown, WV, found that increasing humidity levels to 43 percent or more actually reduced the ability of airborne viruses to cause the flu.

In fact, in a low humidity environment, as much as 77 percent of viruses could transmit disease through coughs. But when humidity was increased to 43 percent or more, that number dropped to just 14 percent. We like the sound opf those odds.

Bottom line: a humidifier reduces the chances you'll get sick... a lot. It can also help with dry nose and other uncomfortable symptoms of winter air.

To help keep you and your loved ones healthy this winter season, here are some of the best travel humidifiers you can easily pack in a suitcase and take with you to your holiday destination.

Air-O-Swiss Travel Ultrasonic Humidifier

Amazon

We're attracted to the Air-O-Swiss Travel humidifier because of its simplicity. It doesn't have a filter, and it relies on ultrasonic vibrations to create an ultra-fine mist from the water tank. It's compact and fits in a carry-on, making it ideal for traveling. You'll only need a water bottle and an electrical outlet to put some moisture in the air.

It's available on Amazon for $50.

Crane Travel Humidifier

Sylvane

Drop the Travel Humidifer from Crane into a standard-ized cupo of water, and it'll run "whisper quiet" for 10 hours. It includes three wick filters, and you can choose from black, white, or slate. Just fill the provided base (or any cup) with water, and power it via USB or plug it into the wall.

You can purchase from Best Buy for $26.99.

Bell+Howell Ultrasonic Personal Portable Humidifier

Bed Bath and Beyond

With a single water bottle, this humidifier will last up to 12 hours in a 200 square foot room. It comes with a built-in nightlight and features a UV light that is designed to kill airborne bacteria, mold and viruses.

Head to Bed Bath and Beyond to buy one for $29.99.

Fancii Personal Cool Mist Travel Humidifier

Amazon

The Fancii Personal Cool Mist Travel Humidifier is a  super affordable gadget that converts a standard water bottle--you know, the kind you probably buy rather than drinking out of the tap--into a moisture-producing water tank.

It features an adjustable timer that allows for two, four, six and eight hour automatic shut-off. You can power this device by using USB or even three AA batteries, giving it the ability to be completely cordless.

It's available for $18.99 on Amazon.

JERRY Personal Ultrasonic Humidifier

Amazon

The JERRY is not as quiet as other travel humidifiers, but it gets the job done. What it lacks in quiet it makes up for in international versatility; it includes a transcontinental AC adapter and exchangeable plugs. So if you're traveling to Europe, this one's an option worth considering.

it's available on Amazon for $49.99.
