Changing Yahoo! SafeSearch Preferences

By Steve Gregory

The Yahoo SafeSearch utility has three settings that you can choose from: “Strict -- No Adult Content,” “Moderate -- No Images or Video” and “Off -- Do Not Filter Results.” Each SafeSearch setting has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, the Strict setting protects underage users from adult content, but it can also inadvertently filter out relevant content that it deems inappropriate, such as images from a health website. The option to change your SafeSearch preference is on the Yahoo Search Preferences page.

Step 1

Click "Sign In" on any Yahoo search results page, and enter your Yahoo login credentials in the relevant fields.

Step 2

Click the "Sign In" button, and then hover your cursor over the gear icon.

Step 3

Select "Preferences" from the drop-down menu to open the Yahoo Search Preferences page.

Step 4

Click the drop-down box in the SafeSearch section, and choose the option you want to enable. For example, select "Off -- Do Not Filter Results" to show all of the search results for a search phrase or keyword.

Step 5

Click "Lock" to prevent other users from changing your new SafeSearch setting when you log out of your Yahoo account.

Step 6

Click the "Save" button to activate the new Yahoo SafeSearch preference.
