How Do I Display My PC on My TV?
A personal computer (PC) can be displayed on virtually any type of television using an adapter cable to convert the connection from the PC to a video jack that will work with the TV. Desktop and laptop computers are almost always equipped with a Video Graphics Array (VGA) port for connecting an external monitor. A VGA to RCA video cable adapter bridges the connection between PC and TV for transmitting video from the computer to the TV screen.
Things You'll Need
- VGA to RCA video cable adapter, available at electronics and computer stores.
- RCA video cable
Insert the 15-pin VGA plug on one end of the adapter into the VGA OUT port on the back of the computer or laptop, taking care to align the pins with the 15 holes in the port.
Secure the connection by turning the lockbolt clockwise on each side of the VGA plug.
Plug an RCA video cable into the jack on the other end of the VGA adapter, then connect the plug on the other end of the cable to a video IN jack on the back of the TV.
Turn on the equipment and press the "Input" button on the TV repeatedly until the image from the PC appears on the screen.
Click the "Display" icon on a laptop to open the monitor properties on the system, then select and click "Settings" and "External Monitor" or "Display" to activate the VGA output to the TV.
Tips & Warnings
- On computers with only one VGA output, it will be necessary to disconnect the VGA cable from the regular computer monitor so the port can be used for a TV connection.
- Use the PC speakers for audio. The VGA connection supplies video only.
- Disconnect the equipment from the electricity while hooking up the video cables.
