How to Add Music to a YouTube Video

By Leonardo R. Grabkowski

You can add music to a YouTube video that you have already uploaded using YouTube's audio swap feature. This feature allows you to add licensed music to your YouTube video, which means you won't have to worry about violating any copyright laws.

Step 1

Visit and click "Sign In" in the upper right corner of the page. Sign in to your YouTube account using your username and password.

Step 2

Click on your username in the upper right corner of the screen. Click on "My Videos" from the drop-down menu. This brings up the list of your YouTube videos.

Step 3

Find the YouTube video you want to add music to, and click on the arrow located to the right of the "Insight" link. From the drop-down menu, click on "AudioSwap."

Step 4

Look through the list and choose the licensed music you want to add to the YouTube video. You can enter a keyword to search, or you can browse by genre or artist. Click on the song you want to add to the video.

Step 5

Click "Publish." This adds the music to your YouTube video.

Tips & Warnings

  • When searching or browsing the available tracks, check the box next to "Only show songs of similar length to my video." This prevents the song from being cut off early, or the video from running at the end without music.
