How to Add Videos to an iPhone
Your iPhone can do more than allow you to talk to friends and family. You can also listen to music and watch videos on the portable device, including video files that are on your computer. To watch videos on an iPhone, you must first add the file to your iTunes Library, then customize that video to play on an iPhone. Once you have done this, you can add the video file to your iPhone.
Things You'll Need
Add the video file to iTunes. To do this, you must first click "File" in iTunes. Choose "Add File to Folder." Find the video file saved on your computer that you plan to add to an iPhone. Highlight the video file and choose "Open."
Click "Movies" underneath "Library" on the left of iTunes. The file you added to iTunes will be listed in the middle of the program.
Select the video you want to add to an iPhone. Click "Advanced" at the top of iTunes. Choose "Create iPod or iPhone Version" to customize the file for your iPhone.
Connect the iPhone to your computer. The iPhone will then be listed in iTunes underneath "Devices."
Click on the iPhone, then click the "Summary" tab at the top of iTunes.
Choose "Manually manage music and videos."
Click "Apply" to save this setting.
Go back to the "Movies" option located underneath "Library" in iTunes.
Find the customized video (the video mentioned in Step 4). Highlight this video, and drag it over to your iPhone. The video will then automatically sync to your iPhone.
Tips & Warnings
- iPhones will only play .m4v, .mp4, .mov and .mpeg files. If your video is not in this format, you will need to convert it with an iPod Converter (see Resources below) before you add the file to iTunes.
