How to Bake Your Phone to Reverse Water Damage

By Candice Abrams

If you drop your mobile phone in the toilet or in a puddle, you may have a hard time using it. The water could cause damage to your phone's firmware, battery and internal memory. Instead of throwing your phone away, try saving it instead. Dry off your mobile phone completely by baking it in the oven. Allow a few hours for your phone to dry. This will help reverse any damage associated with your phone.

Things You'll Need

  • Toaster oven
  • Cookie sheet
  • Timer
  • Oven mitts

Step 1

Turn off your mobile phone. Remove the protective cover and take out the battery. Remove the SIM card, if it has one.

Step 2

Set aside the battery and SIM card. Place the phone on a cookie sheet and into the oven.

Step 3

Set your oven to the lowest setting. If your oven has a "Warm" setting, use it.

Step 4

Allow your phone to bake for four to eight hours. Use a timer to keep track of your phone. Remove the phone from the oven with oven mitts.

Step 5

Allow your phone to cool for an hour.

Step 6

Plug one end of the charger into the phone. Plug the other end into a wall outlet. Turn on your phone and see if it works.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your phone may have fading on the outside, but this is the only damage it will have.
