How to Do a Hard Reset on a Time Warner DVR

By Mandy Slake

The hard reset on a Time Warner DVR deletes the operating system files. At the end of the reset process, the DVR will download the files from the Time Warner server. Hard resetting can fix memory issues and problems with the DVR detecting external drives. The process takes approximately five to 10 minutes, depending on the quality of the connection and the amount of data the device needs to transfer. Hard resetting does not delete any data on the device.

Step 1

Turn off your Time Warner DVR and wait approximately five seconds.

Step 2

Unplug the power cable and wait another five seconds.

Step 3

Disconnect any external drive connected to the player. Wait five seconds, then plug the drive back in.

Step 4

Hold down the "Power" button and plug the DVR back in. Keep holding the button until the display reads "Boot." The DVR will begin to download the system software over the Time Warner connection.

Step 5

Check the clock to see when the download is complete. The bottom dot on the colon that separates the hours and minutes will disappear while the software is loading. When the dot reappears, turn the DVR back on.
