Netflix offers new users an opportunity to test out the service for free before committing. You’ll need an email account, an Internet connection, TV, laptop (or the Netflix app), and a credit card (or PayPal account) to get started.
Setting Up Your Subscription
You have three tiers of service to choose from: basic, standard and premium. All tiers can be cancelled at any time.
Basic – after your trial, this will cost $8 per month, as of publication. The basic plan supports only single viewing. For example, you wouldn’t be able to have a video playing on your laptop and on your smartphone. Further, basic does not include HD viewing. You can watch Netflix on your laptop, TV, phone and tablet with unlimited access to movies and TV shows.
Standard – after your trial, this will cost $9 per month. The standard plan supports viewing on two screens simultaneously. Some HD programming is available. You can watch Netflix on your laptop, TV, phone and tablet with unlimited access to movies and TV shows.
Premium – after your trial, this will cost $12 per month. The premium plan allows access to HD programming as well as Ultra HD (when available). You can view four screens at once, whether you’re watching on a laptop, TV, phone or tablet. Ultra HD requires a steady Internet connection of at least 25 megabits per second (or higher). At the time of publication Ultra HD is supported only on a Blu-ray player with the following TVs: Panasonic, Samsung , Sharp, Sony, Vizio and Toshiba.
Your Free Trial
All tiers of service come with a one-month free trial, which gives you full access to all features of whichever plan you choose. After your one-month free trial, you are billed for your first month of service. Until you are billed, you can watch as many movies, TV shows, and documentaries that you would like.
