How to Jailbreak Your LG Optimus Phone

By Mandy Slake

The Android operating system blocks you from changing system files in the device's root directory. Jailbreaking is the act of removing these restrictions. In Android devices that include the LG Optimus line, the process is called rooting. Some programs require root access to run correctly, and rooting is an essential first step in the process of installing a custom version of the OS. You can root your Optimus with one click by installing a program called z4root.

Enabling Non-Market Apps

Step 1

Press the "Menu" button on the main screen of your LG Optimus.

Step 2

Touch "Settings" and select "Applications."

Step 3

Check the box labeled "Unknown sources." The phone will display a message. Press "OK" to dismiss it.

Step 4

Press the "Home" button to return to the main screen.

Installing Root Application

Step 1

Touch the "Browser" icon to launch the Web browser.

Step 2

Touch the address bar and type "static.droidnetwork.net/wicked/files/z4root.1.3.0.apk" to download the file.

Step 3

Press the "Home" button and open the application screen.

Step 4

Touch the "z4root" icon and tap "Root."

Tips & Warnings

  • Rooting may void the warranty on your Optimus phone. If this is a problem, check with your carrier before you install the program.
