With Facebook, a top social networking community, you can interact with members and add special features, such as icons, to your personal page or even a chat message. Icons display all types of emotions and symbols, from smiley faces to musical notes, and are small images that you do not need to place on a web host to make them visible to others. Using the features on your own computer or opting for an online resource, make your own Facebook icons to place them where you want on your space.
Log in to your Facebook account and navigate to the area where you want to insert your icon. For example, click the "Chat" button on the bottom right to insert a symbol in a chat, or click on the "Home" link and go to the "What's on your mind?" text field.
Use an "Alt code" (Windows) by finding an online resource such as fsymbols.com's "Alt codes" page and then get the information to create the icon that you want (see Resources). For example, go to Facebook and simultaneously press "Alt" and "3" on your keyboard to make a solid, black heart.
Access the "characters" feature on your computer (Mac and Windows) to copy an icon for use in Facebook. For the Mac, launch a browser window and click the "Special Characters" option underneath the Edit menu. With Windows, click "Start" and go to "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and then "Character Map." Return to Facebook and paste the icon into the desired area.
