How to Make LinkedIn Connections Private

By Adrian Grahams

The LinkedIn professional and business networking website allows users to connect to business contacts and coworkers. Each time you add a connection in LinkedIn, the site adds the new contact to your network. By default, other LinkedIn users can browse your network and view or contact your connections. If you want to maintain your privacy on LinkedIn, make your connections confidential by editing your account settings.

Step 1

Log in to your LinkedIn account.

Step 2

Click on your LinkedIn username in the top right-hand corner of the page. Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.

Step 3

Click the "Profile" tab in the left-hand menu.

Step 4

Click the "Select Who Can See Your Connections" link in the Privacy Controls section.

Step 5

Select "Only You" from the drop-down list in the Connections pop-up dialog box. Click the blue "Save" button. LinkedIn will now make your connections private, hiding them from all other users.

Tips & Warnings

  • LinkedIn offers additional privacy settings and access controls from the Account Settings page, including the ability to switch off the LinkedIn activity feed and remove your LinkedIn profile from public search engine results.
