How to Reprogram a TV Remote
Universal remote controls are a convenient way to operate your home entertainment equipment. The only problem is learning the codes you need to set up all of your equipment on the one remote. By following a few simple steps, you can prep the device in no time.
Find the brand of the universal remote you own on Internet sites like Remote.com (see Resources below).
Click on your universal remote brand on the website to find the code list for that remote.
Check to see if your remote is preprogrammed to operate your TV, VCR, or Cable Box using the following codes: TV - 000, VCR - 000, Cable Box - 000, AUX - use VCR code 037.
Manually turn on your device. Hold down the "Code Search" button on your remote, then press and release the device button you want to set up until it flashes.
Push the power button repeatedly until the device turns off, then hit "Enter."
Press any other button while the device is on to see if the device responds. If it does, you don't need to do any other programming. If it doesn't, repeat steps 4-6.
Tips & Warnings
- You may find the codes manufacturers put into their original remotes (not universal) at the 1-800-Remotes.com site (see Resources below).
