By Patrick Nelson

Motorola’s DCH6416 analog and digital high-definition video recorder is used by cable television providers as a full-featured set top box. The device includes full high-definition television features and supports interactive and data functions as well. The DVR features dual recording and record/watching, a 160 GB hard drive, double video tuners, accelerated graphics and Dolby digital audio. User settings can include changing the aspect between 4:3 and 16:9 and other formats, HDMI or YPbPr video output and more. Sometimes you may want to reset the device to restore settings to their defaults.

Step 1

Press the “Menu” button which is below the display and to the immediate right of the “Power” button.

Step 2

Scroll through the options using the cursor button. Options will include “TV Type,” “HDMI/YPbPr Output,” “Closed Caption” and so on. Scroll through until you reach “Restore All Defaults.”

Step 3

Press the “Select” button which is below the cursor on the front of the DVR and to the left of the display panel. Press the right arrow key on the cursor. All user settings will be reset to their default settings. Exit the “Menu” by pressing the “Power” or “Menu” button.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometime the cable operator will transmit new software to the box. If the DCH6416 won’t power back up after a download, unplug the DVR from the power outlet and wait a moment. Plug it back in again and press “Power.” As with any computer, many DVR anomalies can be reset like this.
