How to Reset Your Vizio Remote

By Meg Butler

Along with an extensive line of televisions, Vizio also offers universal remote controls. These remote controls can be programmed to control a variety of models of televisions, DVD players, sound systems and even VCRs. The VUR8 remote also offers you the option to reset the remote with a code. This feature often comes in handy if you upgrade or change your equipment. Once you reset the remote control's memory, it is easy to reprogram following the steps outlined in the user's manual.

Step 1

Press the "Set" button. Hold it until the LED light blinks twice.

Step 2

Type 9,8,1 or 9,7,7 into your Vizio remote's key pad to reset the memory. The LED light will blink twice to signal that it accepts the code. The remote's memory is now reset to the state is was in when you first purchased it.

Step 3

Replace the batteries with fresh ones.

Step 4

Reprogram your Vizio remote to read your devices. Press the button that corresponds with the device you wish to program (audio, cable, tv, etc.). Then press and hold the "SET" button until the LED light flashes twice. Then enter the code that corresponds to the brand of DVD player, cable box, or VCR (found in the back of the instruction manual) you are using. The LED light will flash twice. Then press the power button. The device will turn off, indicating that the remote is now communicating with it.

Step 5

Reprogram your Vizio remote to control functions on your DVD, VCR or cable box. Press and hold the "SET" key until the LED light blinks twice. Type the code 9,7,5 into the remote. The LED light will blink twice to confirm the code. Press button that corresponds with the device you wish to program (audio, cable, tv, etc.). Then press and hold the button on the device that you wish to program. The LED light will blink rapidly to confirm. Then press the button on your remote control that you would like to use to control that button. The LED light will stop blinking rapidly then blink twice to confirm.
