How to Take Apart a 42-In. Vizio

By Rebecca Johnson

Although taking apart your 42-inch VIZIO television is usually a job left to television repair professional, you can attempt to repair the television yourself. However, removing the back panel of your VIZIO television will void the 10-year warranty. Commonly replaceable parts include the LCD inverter, control board, transformer and speaker assembly.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Blanket

Step 1

Unplug your television and lay it screen-side down on a blanket to protect the screen.

Step 2

Remove the screws surrounding the back casing using a Phillips screwdriver. The number of screws varies depending on the model of your television.

Step 3

Pull the base out of the television if installed.

Step 4

Lift the back cover off of the television. If you meet resistance, make sure that all of the screw are removed. Use care around the audio/video connections.

Step 5

Locate the part that needs to be removed. Disconnect the wires connecting the part to the power supply. You may need to remove tape that is securing the wires.

Step 6

Carefully unlock the ribbon cable locks. These locks are delicate and break easily. Gently tub on the connector of the ribbon cable to remove the cable.

Step 7

Unscrew the screws holding the part into place using a Phillips screwdriver and lift the part out of the television casing.
