How to Unlock a Sideways Keyboard
The iPhone's rotating screen lets users view pictures, messages and videos in portrait and landscape format based on the position of the phone. The phone's touch screen keypad also moves if the user turns the phone while entering text. With recent software updates, users can now enable and disable the screen and keypad rotation, locking the display in portrait or landscape mode. Disabling the lock lets you access the landscape or "sideways" keyboard when you turn the phone.
Double-tap the "Home" button beneath the screen. The multi-tasking dock appears at the bottom of the screen.
Drag your finger over the screen to the right. The multi-tasking screen moves to the left.
Stop when you reach a silver padlock icon with a circling arrow.
Tap the padlock icon. A smaller, matching version of the padlock icon disappears at the top of the screen.
Rotate the screen to landscape mode next time you enter text; the keyboard will follow.
