How to Use PayPal with a Credit Card

By Kaylee Finn

PayPal offers a secure way to make purchases online. By using PayPal you can buy from online merchants without ever revealing your credit card information to them. Once you have a PayPal account linking a Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express credit card linked to the account, it is easy.

Step 1

Login to the PayPal website and go to the "My Account" page.

Step 2

Click on "Edit profile," which is right next to your name and e-mail under the "Account Overview" header. This will take you to your profile summary, where you can change your contact and financial information as well as other preferences.

Step 3

Click on "Credit/Debit Cards" in the middle column labeled "Financial Information." This will take you to a page that lists all the credit and debit cards currently linked to your account. You may have a total of eight cards linked to your account at one time.

Step 4

Click the "Add a Card" button in the lower right of this page. This will take you to the form for adding a new credit card to your account.

Step 5

Type your credit card information into the form. Select your billing address from the drop-down list or select "Enter a new billing address" and enter your billing address information. Click the "Add card" button when you are finished.

Step 6

Select your credit card as the payment option when you use Paypal to make purchases online.
