AER: Throw Your GoPro

Who needs a drone when you can toss your camera in a big, squishy dart?

By Dave Johnson

Here at Techwalla we're huge fans of cinematic drones. But you don't need to spend a lot of money on a drone (or deal with the complexity of flying one) to get breathtaking video and photos from the air. AER is  a big Nerf-like dart that you can toss into the air to capture aerial photography.

AER looks pretty rugged. It's made of flexible rubber-like Polypropylene, and all of its individual components are replacable if anything goes badly awry. Indeed, it's an incredibly simple gadget that's also waterproof and highly portable (it comes with a carrying bag).

To use it, just slip your GoPro inside the AER's nose (it's compatible with the Hero 3+, Hero 4 Silver, Hero 4 Black, and Hero 5) and start tossing. Check out some of the founders' video and still images to see the kind of shots you can get. It's pretty impressive, especially when you consider that its locomotion is simply whatever you can muster with your throwing arm.

If all goes well—and the project is currently fully funded—deliveries are expected to begin around February. We are definitely eager to try it, especially considering how inexpensive it is.
