How Do I Update My Michelin X960 SatNav?

By Jon Fogg

The Michelin X960 satellite navigation system is a portable GPS that can be used by automobile drivers as well as by cyclists and pedestrians. The unit features a touchscreen as well as a smart keyboard, and it is integrated with the Michelin Guide, which lists addresses, descriptions, ratings, facilities and services for hotels and restaurants for more than a dozen countries. A basic feature of the Michelin X960 is the ability to download regular updates.

Things You'll Need

  • WinZip or similiar file compression program

Step 1

Go to the ViaMichelin Download webpage, which is linked in the Resources section below.

Step 2

Click on the link that says "Please register your product now to download" in order to register your Michelin X960, if you have not already done so.

Step 3

Connect the X960 to your PC via the USB cable supplied with the GPS unit. Make sure the My ViaMichelin Content Manager interface is not running.

Step 4

Return to the Download page. Click on the link or links of your choice along the left side of the page in order to download the updates of your choosing. Categories include fixed safety camera updates, themed point of interest packs, tourist routes, manuals, patches and updates. When saving the file, note where it is downloaded to; this is typically the My Documents folder or the desktop. Do not save the file to the ViaMichelin folder. (By default, this is "C:\Program Files\ViaMichelin\MapSonic" or "C:\Program Files\ViaMichelin\ViaMichelin Navigation.")

Step 5

Unzip the download file using WinZip or a similar program. To do this, right-click on the zipped file and choose "Extract to folder." When you unzip the file, it will be saved to a temporary folder. Open the temporary folder and double-click the executable file with the same name as the update you downloaded; the executable file with end with the prefix "EXE." Follow the prompts displayed on the screen to install the update to the X960.
