How to Change a Gateway Battery

Every laptop battery dies eventually, and each laptop brand, including Gateway, has a different way to replace the battery. Gateway has a few quirks to changing the battery, but once you know them, it's relatively simple to change the battery without a hitch.

Things You'll Need

  • Gateway laptopReplacement battery

Changing the Battery on a Gateway Laptop

Step 1

If your Gateway laptop is not plugged in, turn your laptop off. If your Gateway is plugged in, you can change the battery without turning the computer off.

Step 2

Close the Gateway laptop and turn the computer over so you are looking at the bottom.

Step 3

Locate the battery lock and switch it to the unlock position as designated by the open lock.

Step 4

Slide the battery release latch in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove the battery from the battery bay.

Step 5

Insert the new battery into the bay. Once it snaps into place, slide the battery lock switch back to the locked position.

Tips & Warnings

  • Everything should come out and go in smoothly. If it doesn't, don't force it and check to make sure it's lined up correctly.
  • If your laptop is attached to an optical port replicator, detach it before turning the computer over.
