How to Change an Email Password

By Ann Johnson

Locks with keys or combinations are used to protect physical belongings. Passwords are used to secure personal information. They limit access to email and other online accounts. Occasionally, it is necessary to change an email password. Since there are numerous email account providers, the process for changing a password is not identical for all providers, but it is a similar among email clients.

Step 1

Log into your email account.

Step 2

Click on "Options" and then "Mail Options," if you have a Yahoo email account. If you are using another email provider, look for a link that will allow you to make changes to your account settings. If Godaddy is your provider, click on "Settings," and then "Personal Settings." Click on the tab that says "Password."

Step 3

Click on the "Account Information" link, if you are using Yahoo email. If you are using another provider, look for a similarly worded link to access your account information.

Step 4

Enter you password and sign in. Even though you have already signed into your email account, you may be asked to enter your password again, since you are attempting to make changes to your account.

Step 5

Click on the "Change Password" link.

Step 6

Enter your new password twice. Before you can make the change, you will usually also be required to insert the old password. Click the button to accept your changed password.
