How to Connect an iPad to a Wireless Network

By Dave Renn

Connecting the Apple iPad to a wireless network allows the iPad to take advantage of a high-speed Internet connection. Even for users of the 3G iPad, connecting to a wireless network is worthwhile as wireless speeds are significantly faster than the 3G network.

Step 1

Press the iPad's "Home" button to reach the iPad's home page of apps.

Step 2

Click the "Settings" app icon, which looks like gray gears.

Step 3

Click "Wi-Fi" to enter the iPad's wireless settings.

Step 4

Touch the "On/Off" selector switch on the top of the screen until it reads "On."

Step 5

Select the wireless network that the iPad is to be connected to under "Choose a Network..." It may take a few seconds for the networks to appear after turning on the wireless feature.

Step 6

Enter the password for the network if prompted to do so, and select "Join" to access that wireless network.

Tips & Warnings

  • The iPad will automatically join networks it has previously connected to in the past. If more than one wireless network has been connected to previously, the iPad will join the most recent one.
