How to Convert a PSD to an SWF

By Tammy Clevenger

When you install Adobe Photoshop, a copy of Adobe ImageReady is installed to your computer by default. Adobe ImageReady enables you to convert an Adobe Photoshop image (PSD) to a Shockwave Flash (SWF) file from within Photoshop, so there's no need to install or use third-party conversion tools. The purpose of ImageReady is to provide users with a tool to quickly and easily convert Adobe files between various media editing applications without requiring additional software.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe Photoshop

Step 1

Open the PSD file in Adobe Photoshop.

Step 2

Click the “Edit in ImageReady” icon in the Toolbox palette. The ImageReady icon is the button with a picture of a butterfly at the bottom right corner of the toolbox. The ImageReady interface opens.

Step 3

Click the “File” option on the top navigation bar, and then click “Export.”

Step 4

Click the “Flash SWF” option. The Export to Flash dialog box opens.

Step 5

Click the “Format” drop-down box and then click “Lossless-32.”

Step 6

Check the checkbox in front of the “Preserve Appearance” option and then click “OK.” The PSD file is exported to an SWF file with the same name.
