How to Convert FLAC Music Files to MP3 Using Nero StartSmart

If you're serious about high-quality digital audio files, you probably have at least a few FLAC files on your computer. FLAC files are compressed audio files, but unlike MP3 format, FLAC audio files have no loss in quality when compressed. If you need an MP3 version of your FLAC files, you can use Nero StartSmart to convert between formats. You may need MP3 versions of your FLAC files to load music to MP3 players or if you want to decrease the file size of your music.

Things You'll Need

  • Nero StartSmart

Step 1

Open Nero StartSmart.

Step 2

Select "Edit and Record Music" under the "Music" tab.

Step 3

Click the "File" menu and select "Open..."

Step 4

Browse through your computer's folders to find the FLAC file you want to convert to MP3. Ensure that the file type drop-down menu is set to "All Audio Files."

Step 5

Select the FLAC file and click "Open." The FLAC file will open in edit view.

Step 6

Click the "File" menu and select "Save as..."

Step 7

Choose a file name and select "mp3/mp3PRO (*.mp3)" under "Save as Type."

Step 8

Click "Save" to convert the FLAC file to MP3 format.
