How to Disable Java Update Scheduler

By Melissa King

Java Update is a service that automatically updates your computer with new Java releases. When you install the Java Runtime Environment, Java Update is also installed. If new updates are available, you are prompted to view and download them. This feature may be helpful, but you may also wish to disable it. If you disable the feature, updates are no longer automatically provided, and you must download them manually from the Java website.

Step 1

Open the computer's "Start" menu, then click "Control Panel."

Step 2

Click "Classic View" in the left pane. Double-click the "Java" icon to open the Java Control Panel. Click "Update."

Step 3

Click the checkbox next to "Check for Updates Automatically." Click "OK." The feature is now disabled.
