How to Download Contacts From Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is a popular communications program used for e-mailing business colleagues and friends. In addition to e-mail, Microsoft Outlook stores information for business and personal contacts. Despite the benefits of Microsoft Outlook, sometimes users will need to download their outlook contacts to integrate into other e-mail programs or to create a contact address book that can be accessed when away from the computer.

Download Contacts from Outlook

Step 1

To export contacts from Outlook, open the Microsoft Outlook program on your computer. Choose "Import and Export" from the File menu.

Step 2

Choose "Export to a file" from the options available.

Step 3

Click on the "Next" button.

Step 4

Choose the type of file you want to export the Outlook contacts to. A variety of choices are available. Microsoft Excel is a good option for creating a contact reference list. Personal Folder File option works well with other e-mail software programs.

Step 5

Choose the location to export the contacts file to by clicking on the "Browse" button.

Step 6

Click on the "Next" button to proceed to the next step.

Step 7

Click on the "Finish" button to start downloading the contacts from Outlook.

Step 8

A status window will appear to show the time remaining for the contact download process. Once the status window disappears you can access the contacts downloaded.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are downloading contacts to import into another e-mail program, read the instructions provided by the provider to determine the file type to export the Outlook contacts to.
