How to Download Songs From Sogou

The Chinese search engine also stores a large cache of Asian music. It's a convenient way to obtain music that isn't readily available in the English speaking world, not even on iTunes. However, an English speaker with no knowledge of Chinese will need to know what the click to get to the music page and hear examples before downloading anything. Once you're on the site, there is a Google translation tab that makes the rest easier to figure out.

Step 1

Go to and click on the third link above the search bar.

Step 2

Pick a file format (mp3, wma, rm) from the options beneath the music search bar, .

Step 3

Type in a song title or a singer/band in the search bar.

Step 4

Click on the orange headphones icon corresponding to the song you want to download in order to preview the song and make sure it's the one you want.

Step 5

Click on the orange down arrow corresponding to the song you want to download. This will cause a pop-up window to open.

Step 6

Click on the large green button with a down arrow next to four Chinese characters from the popped-up window and the song will begin to download. The download is free.

Tips & Warnings

  • The search results include information about the file size of each song. If it is below 2 MB, it is most likely a clip and not the full song. Also, the larger the file size, the higher the audio quality of the file.
  • It is illegal to download copyright protected music from Sogou.
