How to Edit a Contact in Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is a program designed for managing your contacts and schedule. The contacts section of this program is very helpful. It is easy to modify a contact and it allows you to keep all of your relationships in order. It allows you to organize them based on personal and professional associations. With technology changing everyday, people need to change with it. You may need to update email addresses, cell phone numbers and addresses of the people you know. Outlook makes this simple to do.

Things You'll Need

Step 1

Open the Microsoft Outlook program and click on the bar that says "Contacts", located on the bottom left hand side of the screen. You can also get to this place by going up to the tool bar on the top of the screen and clicking on the option that says "Go". Next, click on the option that says "Contacts." All of your contacts will be displayed in alphabetical order. You can get to these by clicking on the letters on the right hand side of the screen. They will be in order by last name.

Step 2

Choose the contact you want to modify. When you click on the name of the person or company, the contact box will open automatically, allowing you to make changes.

Step 3

Modify any information that has changed with your contact person. When you are updating this information, it's a good idea to verify the rest of the information you have on file for that person. Once all of the information has been entered, you are going to save your changes.

Step 4

Click on the "Save and Close" button. located on the top tool bar. This button is just below the "File" button, located on the top tool bar. If you have other contacts to update, you can go back to your contacts list and choose another name. Once this information has been saved, the box will automatically close and then go back to your contact list.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that you save your changes. If you do not save your changes, the information in your contact list will be displayed with outdated information.
