How to Fix a Network Resource That Is Unavailable

By Margaret Worthington

When you try to access a computer or other networked device from a Windows machine, you may receive a message that tells you that the network resource is unavailable. This problem is generally caused by a network issue that is typically very easy to fix through rebooting your computer's network interface card (NIC).

Step 1

Log into the computer that is receiving the error message.

Step 2

Click "Start" then type "View Network Connections" and press "Enter."

Step 3

Right-click on your wired or wireless network connection in the list, depending on whether you are using a wired or wireless network.

Step 4

Click "Disable" and then wait 30 seconds for the network card to fully shut off.

Step 5

Right-click on the connection again and click "Enable" to turn it back on and fix the network resource issue.
