How to Fix Ntoskrnl.exe

Ntoskrnl.exe is an extremely important file in the Microsoft Windows operating system. It handles most hardware visualization within the system, which places it solely in charge of the cache manager and memory manager. What normally happens is the file somehow becomes corrupt or is even removed. Because of its importance to the operating system, any error related to the file must be corrected quickly; otherwise, there could be widespread issues later.

Things You'll Need

  • Microsoft Windows XP installation disk

Step 1

Insert the Microsoft Windows XP installation disk into the computer and restart it.

Step 2

Press any key when prompted to boot from the CD.

Step 3

Press \"R\" when the Windows startup page loads. This will take you to the recovery console.

Step 4

Select your operating system and then type in the code \"expand d:\\i386\\ntoskrnl.ex_C:Windows\\System32\".

Step 5

Hit the \"Y\" key when prompted if you would like to overwrite the existing file. Hit \"Enter\" and then type \"Exit\". Your computer will now reboot and the ntoskrnl.exe file will be fixed.
