How to Fix Winword EXE

By Thomas King

The Winword.exe error affects the Windows operating system. Microsoft Word most likely causes the error. However, there are some viruses that have the ability to corrupt the Winword.exe executable file. Run an anti-virus program before continuing in order to rule out the presence of a computer virus. Windows Vista and Seven include a free anti-malware program, called Windows Defender, which can help with this task.

Step 1

Open Microsoft Word 2007.

Step 2

Click the "Office" icon (locate in the top left corner) and click "Word Options."

Step 3

Click "Resources" in the left pane of the Word Options window.

Step 4

Click "Get Updates." Microsoft creates updates to fix common problems on a regular basis. If getting the latest updates does not solve the problem, continue to the next step.

Step 5

Click "Diagnose" next to "Run Microsoft Office Diagnostics."

Step 6

Click "Continue" and "Run Diagnostics." The tool searches for problems and automatically repairs any problems that it finds. If it cannot repair the problem, the tool suggests further steps that you can take.
