Learn how to release your computer's current IP address and obtain a new one from Time Warner Cable.

Release your current IP address and obtain a new one from Time Warner Cable by resetting your network adapter.

Resetting your network adapter only changes your current IP address if you have a standard Internet connection with dynamic IP. If you are a corporate customer and purchased Internet service with fixed IP address, contact Time Warner Cable by phone or email to request a new IP address.

Step 1

Open the Start menu or Start screen and type Network. Select Network and Sharing Center from the search results.

Step 2

Select Change Adapter Settings from the sidebar to open the Network Connections window.

Step 3

Disable the network adapter.

Right-click the network adapter and select Disable from the contextual menu. If prompted, click Yes to allow Windows to disable the network adapter.

  • Check your current IP address by selecting Status from the contextual menu and clicking the Details button. The Network Connection Details window lists your IP address next to IPv4 Address.
  • Depending on your hardware and software configuration, the Network Connections page may list multiple adapters. Disable the adapter labeled Local Area Connection or Ethernet if you use a wired connection to connect to the Internet. Alternatively, disable the Wireless Network Connection adapter if you connect to the Internet wirelessly.

Step 4

Enable the network adapter.

Enable the network adapter by right-clicking it and selecting Enable from the menu. Wait a few seconds for your computer to connect to the network, get a new IP address and restore normal Internet connectivity.
