How to Import Photos to an iPad

By Matthew Burley

Apple's iPad tablet is capable of storing and displaying a number of different files, including photos. The iPad's large, mobile screen offers a good way to view photos while away from your computer, as well as creating an option for backing up important pictures. Photos can be imported from your computer through the iTunes software, which can be downloaded for free from Apple's website.

Things You'll Need

  • iTunes

Step 1

Open a browser and go the iTunes download page on, if you don't already have iTunes.

Step 2

Click the blue "Download" button at the top left corner of the browser window.

Step 3

Save the file to your computer, then double-click it and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Step 4

Connect your iPad's USB cable to the bottom of your iPad and a USB port on your computer, and then wait for the iTunes software to launch.

Step 5

Click your iPad under the "Devices" section on the left side of the window, and then click "Photos" at the top of the center pane.

Step 6

Check the box to the left of "Sync Photos."

Step 7

Click "Apply" at the bottom of the window, and then wait for iTunes to sync your photos to your iPad.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can select the "Selected folders" option on the "Photos" menu of your iPad and specify the photo folders you want to sync if you don't wish to sync all of your photos.
